Shared responsibility for women’s development

On 15 March 2024, we held the second edition of Umukenyezi Show with Kuza Muzik and Equity and Associates, with the Institut Français du Burundi (IFB) as partner. The programme paired a morning discussion on shared responsibility for women’s development with an evening concert by women artists at IFB. We organised the edition in recognition of International Women’s Day, observed on 8 March.

Umukenyezi Talk

Umukenyezi Talk was the morning panel, focused on the responsibility each actor carries for women’s development. It formed part of our Communication & Media work, which develops and shares content about the lives of Burundian women for different audiences.

Women artists on stage

The evening brought together women singers, a comedian, a slam poet and a cultural club. The programme included music, dance, comedy and poetry, with an MC hosting. Among the performers were slam poet Sysy and Club Culturel Ihunja. We planned the concert as a space for women artists to meet and connect, with future partnerships and opportunities in mind.

Sharing the programme

Umukenyezi Show forms part of our Cultural Actions programme, which supports Burundian music and artist-led cultural organisations. Ahead of the show, our Director General, Yvette Ihorimbere, presented the event during a media tour.
