Abana Bacu brings two women’s groups together around children’s education

Abana Bacu’s 2025 review brought Runtown Ladies and Baho Urwize together to discuss children’s education and family well-being.

September 2025

Women from Runtown Ladies and Baho Urwize reviewed the 2024 school year and discussed education, family responsibilities, entrepreneurship and sexual and reproductive health.

The programme focused on four areas: children’s school progress and planning for the next school year; parental responsibility and support for children’s education; economic empowerment and entrepreneurship; and sexual and reproductive health.

The women reviewed the 2024 school year with Father J. Paul Ndayikengurutse, a Salesian priest and director of Ecofo Don Bosco Ngozi. Psychologist and University of the Great Lakes professor Lysette Gahimbare used role-play to discuss parental responsibility and children’s school support.

The review covered parental responsibilities, economic empowerment and family health.

Women’s entrepreneurship specialist and coach Yvette Manirakiza led practical planning on time and income-generating activities alongside family responsibilities and children’s wellbeing. Janvier Niyonkuru, a sexual and reproductive health communication specialist, discussed how mothers can include these conversations in children’s education. Participants asked for more sessions on the subject in future editions.
